AVAL ADAI / FLATTENED RICE SAVORY PAN CAKE


Adai is an authentic lentil based preparation popular in the South. In this poha recipe,instead of lentils and rice poha,gram flour and rice flour is utilized. This crispy delicacy can be relished as a breakfast and evening snack
 
 
 
 



Soaked flattened rice
Ground ingredients mixed with soaked poha/flattened rice





INGREDIENTS

Poha or flatened rice- 1 1/2 cups

Gram flour-1 tbsp

Rice flour-1 tbsp

Salt to taste
 
 


INGREDIENTS TO GRIND WITHOUT WATER

Coconut gratings- 2 tbsp

Red chillies- 5 nos

Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
 
 
 


FOR SEASONING

Oil-4 tsp

Mustard- 1 tsp

Asafoetida- 3/4 tsp

Curry leaves-1 sprig




PROCEDURE-

Soak poha in water till it softens and drain water completely and keep it aside. To the drained poha add gram flour,rice flour,ground mixture,salt and seasoning and mash thoroghluy till the ingredients blend well. If the mixture is little soggy add some more flour to make it tight. 
 
 
Heat tawa and apply oil.When it is hot, flatten the poha mixtue on the tawa. You can even use plastic paper or butter paper to flatten the poha and gently shift it to hot tawa. Apply oil on both the sides and cook till both the ides turn crisp.
