This is an authentic upma popular in the south.This sour tasting upma is very easy to prepare.Rice rava is available in shops but if it is not accessible,it can be prepared at home. While preparing this upma,make sure that buttermilk is sour.
RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
Sour butter milk- 2 cups,rice rava-1 cup,chilli powder-1 tsp,salt to taste.
FOR SEASONING-Oil-1 tbsp,mustard-1 tsp,split urad dal-1 tsp,curry leaves-1 sprig,asafoetida-3/4 tsp.
METHOD-
In a pan heat oil and add all the ingredients cited under 'seasoning'.Soak rice rava in buttermilk along with salt for 20 minutes.After 20 minutes pour the mixture over the seasoning and add chilli powder keep stirring in mild heat till it forms a lump then switch off. Always prepare this upma in a heavy bottomed pan.
